The UP "Streckenfieber" has just concluded its 2. year in existence, and once again very many ambitious UP pilots have participated, battling it out over the skies of Europe.
In the EN C-and-above class our fair favourite Brigitte Kurbel won a very comfortable victory through her impressive closed-circuit flights from Hochfelln, Speikboden and Grente. Flying close to 300km in a closed circuit takes much longer than the same distance usually requires if it is a straight distance, and Brigitte is known to appreciate the ease-of-use of her Trango wings at the end of a long day in the air. At the same time she wouldn't have been without the extra performance she gets from the UP top models - their performance, coupled with that famous relaxed flying feeling, was precisely what made her flights possible.
In the EN B-and-below class, Herbert Heumann flew his Kantega XC2 to another very comfortable victory, doing both closed-circuit and open-distance flights. Herbert proves that XC flying isn't about glider class so much as persistence and talent, and we're proud to have him on one of our babies.
Both Brigitte and Herbert can rest after a long season with a smug look on their faces (when no one is watching of course) as they both get to choose a new UP wing as their grand prize - doesn't get much better than that! Aside from these two, another 18 UP pilots walk away with trophies, as described in our contest page here.
We're discussing a number of options regarding the Streckenfieber for next year, not least making it into a global event. We'll be mulling that over in the coming weeks - watch our web page and Facebook page for more news!
