Ein würdiger Nachfolger des MERU mit neuem Top-Speed sollte es werden – ein hoch gestecktes Ziel, der UP Entwickler Frantisek „Franta“ Pavlousek & Team gelungen ist. Der MERU 2 (EN/LTF D) begeistert mit 84 Zellen und einer Streckung von 6,9. Dazu kommen einige konstruktive Kniffe: Nylon-Stäbchen an der Eintrittskannte sowie im Ober- und Untersegel, eine neue innere Struktur, maximierte Beschleunigung und ein durchweg schnittiges Profil unter Verwendung eines durchdachten Materialmixes. Die Summe dieser Feinheiten und deren detailgenaue Abstimmung aufeinander macht den MERU 2 so einzigartig und interessant für Wettkampfpiloten. Zeit, den Pulk hinter sich zu lassen!

Was ist neu?
Der MERU 2 verbindet Streckenfliegen auf höchstem Level der D-Klasse mit gewohnt präzisem, angenehmem Handling. Wie beim beliebten Vorgängermodell wird hier das Thema Leistung entsprechend modernster Möglichkeiten bei Konstruktion/Material ausgereizt, was zu einem neuen, beeindruckenden Top-Speed und Gleitwinkel geführt hat. Auch die Stabilität konnte nochmal verbessert werden. Die stärksten Veränderungen im Vergleich zum ersten MERU liegen versteckt im Innenleben des MERU 2, zeigen sich aber u.a. in besagtem neuen Top-Speed. Das auch äußerlich für Beschleunigung optimierte Profil ergänzt dies perfekt.
Wie fliegt er sich?
Er „findet den bestmöglichen Anstellwinkel wie von allein“ hieß es über den MERU. Auch beim MERU 2 wird die Steuerung sowohl in starken, wie auch schwachen Bedingungen leicht eine Sache der Intuition. Ein Luxus für Profipiloten und nicht weniger angenehm für alle, die es mit dem MERU 2 werden wollen. Die Tragegurte leisten dazu ihren Beitrag mittels der bewährten C-Handles. Das Beste am präzisen Tragegurt-Konzept: es ist im Aufbau ebenso einfach wie effizient. Das Speedsystem macht seinem Namen Ehre und lässt sich dank kugelgelagerter Rollen kräfteschonend bedienen, selbst wenn man mal länger im Gas steht. Für besonders anspruchsvolle Flugbedingungen bringt der MERU 2 die nötige Stabilität mit. Hingegen beweist er bei schwacher Thermik durch ausgezeichnetes Feedback der Kappe, dass er auch diese Disziplin beherrscht.
Für wen eignet sich der MERU 2?
Vielflieger mit großen XC-Ambitionen – sei es in Freizeit oder Wettkampf. Denn wer weite Streckenflüge absolviert und bei XContest & Co. punkten will, lernt an seinem Gleitschirm neben reichlich Performance auch Sicherheitsreserven zu schätzen. Der MERU 2 wurde von den Testpiloten in den unterschiedlichsten Flugbedingungen und Manövern diesbezüglich geprüft. Die UP-Teampiloten brachten zusätzlich ihre Erfahrung mit dem ersten MERU ein. Ihr Fazit: Das Flugverhalten entspricht EN/LTF D mit allen Vorteilen eines 2-Leiners. Vielflieger werden ihre Freude am direkten und agilen MERU 2 haben. Auch Aufsteiger in die D-Klasse sind hier gut aufgehoben.

Frohe Kunde auch für leichte Piloten und Pilotinnen: Erstmals gibt es eine Größe S (Gewichtsbereich: 78 -90 kg)! Damit decken die insgesamt vier Seriengrößen (S, SM, M, L) von 78 bis 125 kg eine breitere Spanne ab als bisher und noch mehr Menschen kommen weltweit in den Genuss des MERU 2.
