UP Team pilot Honza Rejmanek was in Chamonix with his son Martin for a family trip, and together they took to the air from Augille du Midi (3842 m). This imposing summit is a rocky outpost in the Mont Blanc massif, which towers over the city center by a full 2800 meters.
They had brought their DENA (EN/LTF A) and MAKALU 5 (EN/LTF B) with them. From our own experience, we can say that even the cable car ride offers a thrill with good views. Once you have arrived above the clouds, you can expect the best panorama with a view of Mont Blanc.
Honza reports: “I flew the DENA. Martin was on his new MAKALU 5. We launched at 1 PM into a light NW wind. The air was super smooth above the cumulus clouds and down in the valley we thermaled around for another hour in proper spring thermals and valley wind."
Martin, 16 years of age, describes the experience as follows: “The MAKALU 5 has been the perfect glider for me to grow into. Moving up from the DENA, I immediately felt the difference, stability, confidence, and pure fun. Flying in Chamonix’s choppy spring conditions, the MAKALU 5 gave me the control and security I needed while keeping my wing right where it belonged.
