UP Team Pilot Honza Rejmanek and his son Martin were on tour again! The weather was perfect and this meant XC everyday for 12 days straight, adding up to 37 hours of airtime. Including a dedicated attempt.
A notable quest during theit trip was Annecy to Chamonix one day and back the next. The absolute highlight though, was a 5.5 hour flight with light wind and cloudbase at 4,000m, which allowed Martin to fly his MAKALU 5 almost all the way around the Mont Blanc Massif. Starting at Plan Praz and flying clockwise, Martin was on radio with his dad as they flew their solo wings through France, Switzerland, Italy, and then back into France attempting to fly around Aiguille du Glacier. This is where a localized NW headwind did not allow the full completion of the circuit. Other pilots that day took a shortcut through a 3300m pass just west of Mont Blanc and completed the task. Martin was still very satisfied with the flight, saying it was his most amazing to date. “On the Italian side of Mont Blanc you are flying in proper big mountains!” commented Martin. True that! May the wind be more cooperative next time.
