The material mix on K2 5 is the same as on K2 4. Everlast is used for the whole front half of the upper surface for maximum durability. They also share the features MSA (Maximum Suspension Airfoils), which increases passive safety and is part of the pleasant handling and BEH (Big Ear Holders) for a comfy & fast descent.
The difference is, K2 5 has more cells, which creates an even smoother surface and therefore better performance. The 10 additional cells cause a slight plus in weight: K2 4 had 7.2 kilo in size SM, K2 5 starts at 7.5 kilo. Also, K2 5 comes in three sizes (38, 41, 44) instead of just two like the K2 4. This means pilots have the option to choose exactly the weight range they need. Size 38 of the K2 5 is also certified for solo use – which comes in handy for large pilots and fans of PPG.
Additional new features of the K2 5 are as follows:
- AIT (Air Intake Tension Lines) for optimal shape and pressure of each cell
- MRS (Mini Ribs) for a neat trailing edge and less drag
