Meru 2

Two-liner | Cells: 84 | Aspect ratio: 6.9 | Weight: 4.9 kg (size S) | Certification: EN/LTF D

A worthy successor to the MERU with a new top speed was the goal - and UP developer Frantisek "Franta" Pavlousek and our test pilot team succeeded. The MERU 2 (EN/LTF D) inspires with 84 cells and an aspect ratio of 6.9. In addition, there are some design tricks: Nylon rods at the leading edge and in the upper and lower sails, a new inner structure, maximised acceleration and a sleek profile throughout using a well thought-out mix of materials. The sum of these subtleties and their detailed coordination makes the MERU 2 so unique and interesting for competition pilots. Time to leave the pack behind!

Franta Pavlousek (UP glider desinger): “We significantly improved performance and top speed without neglecting the safety and the MERU´s famous flying easiness. This was the most important - and we can say the most difficult - part of the designing process. But we have been successful!”

  • Line diameter optimised for individual glider size to reduce induced drag
  • New generation "Shark Nose" - developed with the help of CFD (Computer Airflow Analysis)
  • Double 3D Panel Shaping & 3D Negative Panel Shaping for optimum leading edge profile fidelity
  • FSS (Front Section Support) & RSS (Rear Section Support) on top and bottom sail for high performance and stability in turbulence
  • Reduced drag line attachment points on the canopy
  • Miniribs for an aerodynamically optimised trailing edge
  • BTS Brake Reefing System for best possible thermal performance
  • Precise riser concept for varying the angle of attack of the central and lateral canopy sections
  • C-Handles for efficient control via the C-plane

Meru

Winning performance and handling

We designed the MERU for record breaking cross country flights, and top-level competitions. An aspect ratio of 6.9 combined with a sophisticated two-liner construction make the MERU the perfect glider for expert pilots to get the most out of their flying day. The MERU has the handling that UP is known for; direct, sharp and fun to fly. The MERU’s agility and communication mean that the pilot will find the thermal faster, and climb more efficiently. Complex internal structure combined with two-liner pitch control make the MERU very stable at speed, with awesome performance into a headwind.

While flying it you feel that every little piece of lift is converted into height, while the glider searches out more lift. With optimized attachment points, 84 cells, and a super clean leading edge the MERU is a true thermal surfer.

2020 edition: This model is now also equipped with our popular snap-lock break handle as well as our C-steering handles.

  • Rear-riser control system, to work the AOA independently left and right, and keep the speed bar at pulley-to-pulley level even through turbulence
  • New Generation "Shark nose" Aerofoil
  • Double 3D panel shaping
  • Leading Edge 3D negative panel shaping for a cleaner and stiffer leading edge
  • UP low-drag line attachment points on the canopy
  • Mini ribs along trailing edge
  • Upper and lower skin rods for collapse resistance
  • Long FSS (Front Section Support system) long rods
  • BTS brake tensioning system
  • Precise design of risers with different accelerator travel of central and external parts of the wing
  • Unsheeted lines of low diameter to reduced line drag
  • Swept back wingtips for better handling and improved climbing

Trango X-Light²

setting new standards in the lightweight class

The Trango X-Light2 was purpose-built for the UP athletes in the 2013 Red Bull X-Alps. As from this season even X-Alps wings need to be certified, and while that may not be the best of news for manufacturers or X-Alps pilots it is GREAT news for someone looking for a certified lightweight performance paraglider, since it means that the specialist wings are now available for all to buy.
While working on the new wing it dawned on us that this was a good opportunity to address a shortcoming of the EN C certified Trango XC2, namely its top speed, which had to be limited a little for the wing to be certified in the C class. So although the X-Light 2 is in many ways simply a lighter version of that wing, we decided that we'd increase the top speed of the new design by some 5-7km/h, simply by increasing the accelerator travel quite substantially.
  • A lightweight version of the UP Trango XC2 - and with a higher top speed
  • Safe and EASY 3-liner design, but with the performance and top speed of a 2013 comp wing
  • Increased speed system travel compared to the XC2, for greater speed range and higher top speed
  • UP-typical swept-back wingtips for good handling, easy stall characteristics and less induced drag. Improves handling too!
  • Optional Dyneema risers available as aftermarket accessory - shave off another 200g! (available soon!)
  • Thinner, more pliable Nylon rods in LE and over the C attachment points - same performance, less weight and less packing volume/hassle
  • VERY confidence-inspiring handling and passive safety - a relaxing wing to fly
  • Just over one kg lighter than the XC2 in all sizes
  • UP low-drag line attachment points on the canopy
  • Unsheathed lines everywhere

  • Based on the UP 2011 X-Alps wing flown by Toma Coconea and Ferdy van Schelven - top performance, but EASY to fly
  • High-performance 3-liner design with intelligent use of canopy-internal stiffening to maintain perfect airfoil shape at all speeds
  • Ball handles on the C risers for efficient pitch control during accelerated flight
  • UP-typical swept-back wingtips for good handling, easy stall characteristics and less induced drag. Improves handling too!
  • Low-drag BB pulleys on speed system to keep required effort down - good for long transitions at full bore
  • Extra long Airfoil Stabilizing System together with Mylar for perfect leading edge and canopy definition. Extra C-shaped Nylon rods over the C lines for improved load distribution. Basically the best of the 2-liner world without the drawbacks
  • No long rods in the wingtips, to reduce the risk of cravattes. In fact the wingtips may appear "flappy" at first - an important safety feature! If you haven't flown a 2-liner we promise that the solidity of the canopy in turbulence (aside from the wingtips) will be nothing short of a revelation...
  • Brake tensioning system (BTS) and Mini Ribs for crisper handling and optimum tension on the trailing edge at all angles of attack
  • UP low-drag line attachment points on the canopy
  • Unsheathed lines everywhere
