Vítek "Vít" Šantrůček, member of the Czech National XC Team, has already completed several flights with the TORRE. Here is his assessment.
Launch
"The TORRE is very easy to inflate, even in no wind or light tailwind. It rises cleanly and stays compact without overshooting or deforming. The only thing to watch is UP’s characteristically short, precise brake travel — if the pilot keeps one brake slightly engaged, especially in a tailwind start, the wing will let you know."
Thermals
"In thermals the wing is agile, climbs well and transitions smoothly between lift and sink. The precise handling makes it controlled turns easy. When one side is over‑braked, the wing gives clear warning before a negative spin occurs and recovers quickly once released. TORRE provides enough feedback for good orientation in the air, but it is stable and collapse resistant thanks to its two liner design."
Flight
"The TORRE has a wide speed range and remains easy to control using the rear risers at full speed. Collapses on full speed reinflate quickly. Big ears are simple to induce, though sometimes they need a touch of brake to reopen. At full speed it’s important to keep the brakes fully up to avoid unintended input. The wing is predictable in deep stall and full stall. Wingovers build energy fast — fun, but potentially surprising for a first‑time pilot on this glider."
Conclusion
"The UP TORRE is a high‑performance EN‑C 2‑liner that offers excellent XC potential while remaining safe, predictable and informative in terms of canopy feedback. A great choice as a first EN‑C two‑liner."
