Thomas Schwarzer met local pilot Alex Schweig and friends on a trip to Peru – with MERU 2 and MAKALU 5 in his luggage. The photos taken during the journey give an idea of how breathtakingly beautiful the country is and how much fun it is to fly there.
Fortunately, there is a detailed report by Alex in the current issue #257 of Cross Country Magazine. Here is just a small excerpt:
"We used to joke about watching triple sunsets, like on the Star Wars red planet Tatooine, while packing up after a day's flying in Paracas, Peru. It wasn't until years later when I moved to Europe that rolling green hills, blue skies, and predictable Alpine landscapes became the norm. Only then did I understand just how alien the jagged forms, unexpected colors, and erosion-carved unlikely shapes of the central Peruvian desert can be to the unaccustomed."
