UP team pilot Markus Henninger flew our C-class two-liner a whopping 110 kilometers on June 17, 2026, under challenging conditions.
He reports: “After I’d already sunk out in the second thermal the day before yesterday - which was an amazing flying day in general - today I did some flying in weak thermals in Oberemmendorf. It went surprisingly well and I flew farther than expected given the conditions. The TORRE really stood out thanks to its absolutely precise maneuvering in weak, tight thermals.”
We’re thrilled to receive this feedback on the glider! We’ve also heard similar comments, for example, at the Testival in Samoëns from various pilots and UP’s distributor for France, Franck Smektala. In addition to handling and top speed, he highlights in his report the ability to make very precise turns as another major advantage of the TORRE.
Vitek “Vit” Santrucek of the Czech XC National Team describes it in his report as follows: “The precise handling makes controlled turns easier. If one side is overbraked, the glider gives a clear warning before a negative spin occurs, and recovers quickly as soon as the brake is released.”
But back to Markus and his 100+km flight in light conditions. Just as pleasing as his feedback on TORRE is the fact that his landing and journey home also went smoothly. In his words: “(...) Since Georg had already picked me up the day before yesterday after my out-of-field landing, it was a huge surprise when, after 110 km, I landed in Kleegarten on the Isar and had just taken off my gear when a car pulled up at the landing site - and who got out? Georg, with a post-landing beer in his hand! What a surprise! He then dropped me off at the train station in Landau. Great service, thanks!”
